Presently, Hillary is enjoying a gender novelty matter. Take away gender, which will not be an issue by 2012 either way, and things get much closer.
Meanwhile, Obama, safely serving again as an Illinois senator (something Illinoisans are not sure he's doing well), he'll remain high in the national eye, raising money, and paying his dues.

Check the latest polls- he's climbing rapidly nationally, and within the statistical margin of error, now beating Hillary in Iowa, and coming close in S. Carolina. Even some pundits now saying that, if Hillary doesn't win New Hampshire, she's out. Which makes sense (as she's unlikely to win Iowa they think), but what is significant is now people are talking about Make It or Break It States for Hillary, something unthinkable even a month ago.
I think Obama can run with low risk. He can't lose, no matter how 2008 turns out. This affords him long-term strategy opportunities that Hillary does not have. He'll be as exciting, for better or for worse, in 2012. Hillary, however, will have lost the novelty of gender in 2012, and so must work this election as if it were her only shot. It isn't her only shot, but it is her best shot.

AND CNN polling director Keating Holland said Clinton had lost a surprising amount of support from women but could rebound.
To sway women voters, Clinton has begun campaigning with her daughter, Chelsea, and mother, Dorothy Rodham.
Something tells me, Tadly, that Hillary was never an option for you to start with. ;)
Not liking her, not trusting her is one thing. Presuming her loss, though, is forgetting how complex politics amd media coverage are. John Kerry's supporters forgot this and lost the most winnable election since Carter won.
You are over-estimating the matter, however. Obama's interest is growing, but this does not mean she has lost. Whether she wins or not is too soon to say.
Hillary's smart to sway women voters. Good thinking to bring along her daughter and mom. All generations then are hit with a message. Watch all the candidates do the same thing if they can.
