Go ahead, laugh at the prospect of the Donald heading into the White House.
Remember though, as goofy as it seems, he is still a serious business man. He is not a cartoon like Charlie Sheen (see Songify This: Winning - a Song by Charlie Sheen), or even Richard Simmons, or other made-for-TV personalities.
Could he help the economy? Could he do worse than President Obama or President Bush?
Could he tell the radical Muslims or Moammar Gadhafi where to stuff it?
Employment?
Would he, unlike Obama, actually get us out of war in the Middle East?
If he runs seriously, it could forever change politics.
I'd love Donald Trump to step up to Osama bin Laden and sternly say, "You're fired."

State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley resigns: Obama Supports Humiliation of Inmates
Apparently, strangely, President Obama supports cruel treatment of military prisoners. Aware of the public outcry, and aware of the statements by P.J. Crowley of seeming abuse of soldier imprisoned on charges of leaking U.S. government documents posted on the WikiLeaks website:
Looks like this Commander in Chief is like the last Commander in Chief. The difference is, President Bush was direct about what he supported.
Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters
State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley resignsI'm not sure what to make of this. Amid controversial treatment of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay, and the horrid abuse at Abu Ghraib, plus concerns about waterboarding, I would have expected our president to take leadership against torture and humiliation, but, instead, he supports it as a standard of the US military.
[Pfc. Bradley] Manning was forced to sleep naked for several days under military rules intended to keep maximum-security prisoners who may be suicidal from injuring themselves. Manning's lawyers say he also had been made to stand at attention naked, and that there was no justification for his treatment in custody.
President Obama defended the Pentagon at a news conference Friday, when ABC television reporter Jake Tapper pressed him about Crowley's comments. Obama said he had been assured that Manning's treatment was "appropriate and was meeting our standards."

If Were President Obama, This Month I Would --
If I were President Obama, now that the Republicans will balance out the power --
- I would root out all the corruption I can, starting with Democrats. If he doesn't Republicans will. And it will be messy.
- I would avoid the temptaation of ramming bills through Congress to make them laws. If I said I believe in working across the aisle, I would actually work across the aisle. You are already fighting a George Bush-like image in this and your supporters will continue to lose respect if you do not bring real change to how the White House is done.
- I would add a Republican to the Cabinet. Maybe an independent also, one who is truly nonpartisan. You will win more support from moderates.
- Law low until the State of the Union speech. Work hard behind the scenes. You are fantastic at giving big speeches, but less impressive with the little ones. At the end of the day, remember you are not as gifted as Ronald Reagan when it comes to speaking on the spot. You aren't as bad as Bush was, but save your thunder. You can restore your whammy-image you enjoyed in 2008.
- I would stop my supporters from trashing Sarah Palin as a quitter, given his own role quitting the State of Illinois to run for president, and with, now Rahm Emanuel quitting his post mid-term to run for Chicago's mayor. It might be different, but only the most academic politics can explain the distinction.
- Really, really work to be less partisan.

Decision Points by George Bush - Recommended Reading for President Barack Obama
From Amazon.com
President George W. Bush describes the critical decisions of his presidency and personal life.
Decision Points is the extraordinary memoir of America’s 43rd president. Shattering the conventions of political autobiography, George W. Bush offers a strikingly candid journey through the defining decisions of his life.
In gripping, never-before-heard detail, President Bush brings readers inside the Texas Governor’s Mansion on the night of the hotly contested 2000 election; aboard Air Force One on 9/11, in the hours after America’s most devastating attack since Pearl Harbor; at the head of the table in the Situation Room in the moments before launching the war in Iraq; and behind the Oval Office desk for his historic and controversial decisions on the financial crisis, Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan, Iran, and other issues that have shaped the first decade of the 21st century.
President Bush writes honestly and directly about his flaws and mistakes, as well as his accomplishments reforming education, treating HIV/AIDS in Africa, and safeguarding the country amid chilling warnings of additional terrorist attacks. He also offers intimate new details on his decision to quit drinking, discovery of faith, and relationship with his family.
A groundbreaking new brand of memoir, Decision Points will captivate supporters, surprise critics, and change perspectives on one of the most consequential eras in American history – and the man at the center of events.

Is The Gulf Oil Spill Barack Obama's Katrina?
No one could capably argue George Bush cause the Katrina hurricane that hit New Orleans, but he was blamed for his response - too little, too slow, and mismanaged.
Obama is looking at serious fallout if he fails to take swift and clear action. He is already looking like a politics as usual guy, having tried to buy out Joe Sestak's run for the Senate by offering him a job if he stepped out and let the eventual loser Arlen Specter win the primary. Sestak turned him down. Republicans are naturally overracting to a perfectly legal offer, yet it hardly is helping Obama look like more than the last guy.
Bad week to be Obama.
Another thought on this:
Two crises: Where's Obama?
If the White House doesn't step up soon on both the gulf oil spill and Arizona's anti-immigrant law, it risks economic woes in the gulf and loss of control of the immigration issue.

Obama's Problem Du Jour: Pakistan Muslim Terrorists
It might seem like President Barack Obama's current problem is his nomination of Elena Kagan, as she is being decried by conservatives. The reality both Obama's liberal tendencies, his supporters' patent agreement with his decisions, and conservatives tendency to dislike anything he does is nothing new. We saw this pre-election, both the liberalism, the swooning, and the opposing blind hate.
His problem of the day, apart from the constant issues of the economy, employment market and the non-stop Middle East war, is Pakistan's Taliban.
We are no longer a George Bush nation. Cowboy George has ridden off into the sunset, albeit out on the rails, but he is gone, and has been gone for something like a year and a half.
According to Reuters,
Apparently, the non-love extends to Indonesia as well, where Islamic militants wanted to kill him.
Politically, a mess, of course, as Obama works hard to build a sense of trust so that he can negotiate with the terrorists.
Bigger than that, though, is America's safety, not to mention his own.
While the cowards among those Islamic terrorists are so convinced that no one in their right mind would accept their beliefs, they do try to proselytize through murder. Billy Graham and free will theology is hardly their MO. Obama is working to get beyond this, but is finding that when a group prone to killing, whose goal is to convert the world by force, is difficult, to say the least. He now knows what Bush knew and could not resolve.
Hopefully, Bush's failure will not be Obama's. Bush did, in general, after 9-11, keep America safe.

Barack Obama, a Liberal Man's George W Bush: A cowboy without a hat, he wears a mitre.
Just like Iraq, a real threat is before us. With Iraq, we looked at terrorism, now vanquished thanks to Barack's excellent negotiating skills. We were scared and stupid. "Crucify them!" we cried, trading the Barabbas of Truth for the Christ of the Middle East. And crucify them we did, not matter how innocent they were. But thankfully, Barack was chosen by the college of blue birds. With the signal of blue smoke, they announced his elevation, and now, troubles no more. Can I hear a sweet amen from his pews?
Here we are now with another looming disaster, but Barack is here, thank God. He has seen their corruption, their malfeasance, their evil. With health care in disarray, ready to topple Washington DC, a new cowboy has ridden into town. Like George W. Bush, he does not need to work bilaterally, but has an agenda that American must have, lest in fall to the the health terrorist. Free markets have gone on long enough, and need wrangling and slaughtering.
As the Constitution so clearly demands, health care is the right of all, Father B as we lovingly like to think of him, has touched this and is healing America. The Constitution declares: Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and health care to be provided by the people for the people at the expense of the people. A tear in my eye is welling up. Please. I need a moment to salute those blessed words as I type.
Rev. George only looked at Iraq. He, never now to become Pope, did not know what to do with health care. His priorities were short-sighted, incapable of caring for his flock. As such, he only served eight years in office, having been merely elected and not chosen.
In St. Washington's Basilca, Father B. speaks from the chair, and has said that he will do whatever is necessary to ensure health care. The Republicans, or as he refers to them, "separated brethren," will deter him no longer. He is working now to institute Slaughter House Rules (Mother Pelosi is assisting), which will assist him in pushing bills not even the great John Kerry dreamed of in the Crusades of 2004.
Tears run still from my eyes. I know now my sins of trusting the corporate insurance companies. How did I dare think they were good? Why did I let them exist? Why did our forefathers miss the inalienable right of health care? Roosevelt? Truman? Dear lords, how, how, how!
George W., you have failed us, though, like your predecessors, you were only human. Repent, and thank God with us that Father B. is here to hear our prayers.

Obama's Approval Rating an Impressive 50%
Almost equally George W Bush's 82%, and slightly better than Ronald Reagan's 49%, President Obama's approval ranks a solid eighth in presidents since Dwight D Eisenhower.
Better than Reagan? Worse than Bush?
Incidentally, that's Eisenhower on the dollar, not Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

Nobel Prize, Anyone? Barack Obama Accepts Prize Before Job is Done
Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. When his people submitted his name to The Committee, they never expected he would win. They just wanted him to look like a peaceful politician. They wanted to market him as the antiBush. Winning presents a problem. Very rarely does the winner stand with so much conviction as to reject the award, and Obama took the prize humbly.
He knows he has not earned anything yet. We are still at war in the Middle East, fully intending to send more troops. He is no pacifist, much to the chagrin of many of his followers. Rather, he sees what Bush saw: a messy problem requiring a messy solution. Unlike Bush, Obama is working hard to present timelines for pullout, and the proof there will happen or not. Hopefully, our troops will be pulled from harm's way soon. Hopefully the job will be done. If not, Obama, in accepting the Nobel Prize today, will have an awkward situation. No doubt careful responses to the war-peace paradox, especially as he gives his speech which will be published across the internet (OK, except for China, North Korea and Iran, three countries dreadfully afraid of free speech.)

Yes We Can, But We Shouldn't: Grayson Spits on Obama's Goal of Unity
President Obama sloganized his campaign with 'Yes We Can." Some argue he was saying, "Yes, we can elect a black man into the White House." Others think he was saying, "Yes we can work as one country without partisan backstabbing," as was the case while President Bush held the office.
Not newbie Rep. Alan Grayson. He thinks Republicans are out to see peeople die.
According to the Associated Press, "If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: die quickly," he said. "That's right. The Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick."
Mr. Grayson wants to rephrase Obama's slogan to, "Yeah, I think we could, but given my inexperience in Washington and general hatred of Republicans, no we shouldn't."
Am I exagerating? Of course I am.
Still, Mr. Grayson won't apologize. Not famous for liberal tolerance, he is what continues to divide America. Joe Wilson is no charmer, but at least he apologized.
For those following Sarah Palin (a Democrat and Republica hobby alike, apparently): her book is ready.

Obama's Solution to the Economy? Listen to George Bush
Is President Obama taking tips from President Bush on how to resolve our economic troubles? You betcha. By picking Ben Bernanke to be Federal Reserve Chairman once again, Obama is telling Democrats, "When you chose me, you chose George Bush's solutions."
Weird, huh?
Weird, huh?

Obama Pulls a Bush Cowboy Move
Saying the police are stupid alienated a lot of good cops, but such was what President Obama did last week when saying, "The Cambridge police acted stupidly."
After enjoying a honeymoon by the media, Obama, having gone cowboy on the cop and inserting himself into a local police matter, is watching his popularity go down a notch. No way is he suffering, but his approval ratings are essentially what President George W Bush's were at this point into his presidency.
Obama will rise again, it is reasonable to think, as the Gates fiasco is nearing an end and he more or less apologized for hos involvement.

PETA Cheers on Murder of Fly on National Television
PETA Cheers on Murder of Fly on National Television? Of course not. Here's what they said.
George W. Bush never killed a fly with such premeditated glee, nor scooped up the carcass so mildly.
What matters is how much traffic this blog gets for such useless news. Me? I'm trying to draw traffic, make a few bucks while sorting out the silly media softball travesty delivered about Obama. This will hurt him in the long run. The future will call him the Emo President - that is, not because he's an emo boy (I believe Obama has quite the spine), but because the media is only providing easy news about him.

Iranian (President) Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Has Protestor Killed
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is not a well man.
Besides being a first class loud-mouth thug, apparently he rigged his own election. For all the detractors George W Bush had, most Americans still respected that he won the 2004 and 2008 election, each with record numbers. Only the most partisan American thought otherwise. In Iran, however, Ahmadinejad claimed victory much as Saddam Hussein once did in Iraq. No one seriously thinks of Iran as a democracy.
To help ensure 'victory', Ahmadinejad had his military kill a protester.
Obama will have his hands full.

President Bush Screws Up Robert Gates' Name
As reported in the conservative website, the Huffington Post, President Bush found himself apologizing for his mistaking Robert Gates for Bill 'Water' Gates. Rush Limbaugh chuckled uneasily, not sure if that warmth running down his leg was a thrill or something else.
The liberal rags, from FOX News to the Red State Guns Gazette, all declined the opportunity to castigate a sitting president on such trivialities. If President Bush were standing when he said this, all bets would be off, and snark season would begin.

President Obama Allows Personal Bias To Influence Supreme Court Choice
Daring to do what George W Bush dared do, Barack Obama is allowing his personal feelings influence his decision in his Supreme Court choice.
Will Obama's choice be led by the so-called heart, or by legal objectivity?
"I view that quality of empathy, of understanding and identifying with people's hopes and struggles, as an essential ingredient for arriving at just decisions and outcomes," Obama has said.

Barack Obama Hasn't Said Anything Stupid (Yet)
President Barack Obama is not yet on the Top 10 Unfortunate Political One-Liners list. Democrat Bill Clinton is on it twice, Republican George W Bush is not even on it, and Republican Richard Nixon leads with the worst line.
Hopefully, Obama will remain off the list. He will say stupid things. How he responds is key. He has yet to show the quick humor of Ronald Reagan, and comes across very serious. He'll need to quickly say, "Oops," and move on.
While George W Bush was not a polished speaker like Obama, his challenges were slight - the wrong word, or poor pronunciation. With Clinton and Nixon, it was about lying.

Barack Obama Mixes Religion and Politics, ala George Bush
As expected, the media is jumping on one of the great double standards in politics: religion. President Barack Obama is doing what many Democrats despised and harangued George Bush for promoting -- the Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships
The Democrat's inaugural pomp was steeped in prayer, and one of his first proclamations included a shout out to "an awesome God." Last week, Obama used the platform of the National Prayer Breakfast to unveil a new-look White House Office on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships that features a team of policy advisers from both religious and secular social service circles. Most are ideological allies, but not all.
More War Is the Answer, Says President Barack Obama
In a move that may be somehow justified by peace protesters who thought John McCain was war hungry, and that Barack Obama sought to pull troops away from the Middle East, Afghanistan will be seeing 17,000 new young men and women on the firing line.
While McCain may have done the same thing, that President Obama is adding 50% more troops will exhaust the minds of the sort who used to carry signs in front of President Bush's Crawford, TX home for the same reason.
Simply put, as it relates to Afghanistan, President Obama is pro-war.

Brilliant Deflective Apology by Barack Obama
Brilliantly deflecting trouble by acknowledging his screwed up. As he said, not realizing the tax problems of his appointees is an honest mistake. He didn't fully research the candidates, and they came up sour.
It also allows him to apologize. George W Bush came across non-apologetic often. As Obama apologizes, his supporters can say, "He admits when he is wrong." It also gives him cachet so that when he chooses to place blame elsewhere, he will have this to point to.
As a media move, incredible. It hardly implies he is not sincere, but he is deft politically, and knows how the media wants to present him.
Sincerity is not seen in a moment, but from a distance, over many moments. In a year, we'll know. For now, the benefit of the doubt.
